trash and such

Its been almost two years now since I took a trip to Europe. While I was there I visited some very large,  populated cities. I noticed most cities were well kept, of course this is Europe and most cities were tourist friendly. Nevertheless, I could sense dignity in these cities. Pride for their historical sites and for the beautiful land around them. In France for instance, the city employed street cleaners. These people would sweep the street all day with a broom and a pan and this kept them free of litter. The landfills were not in view of the public. Bathrooms were noticeably clean and sanitized. I acknowledged that citizens and tourists were more likely to throw away their trash there. In relation to Montana and America in general, it seemed like they really had gratification in keeping things clean. Everyone was more mindful and there was hardly any carelessness. People respected their environment around them and overall it was nice to experience such feelings.

sustainability

After more research on the topic of sustainability, I now know there is much more that can be explored than I realized. That is why I am taking somewhat of a different approach. I am going to research the concept of 'disruptive technology'. A term that describes technology that is unrefined. It describes when new technoloy is continuously created- created too quickly for the consumer to accept it and adapt to it before a new and supposedly better invention is introduced. I am going to explore the idea of disruptive innovation in general and how this could not only be preventing stimulation in the economy but also wasting a ton of money and time. I do not know too much about this subject, but it is very interesting to me. I'm hoping its not too new of a concept for me to find a sufficient amount of information.

soup

To me soup is incredible. Its hot. Its brothy. Its creamy. Its chunky. It can be cold too if your into that. Its almost effortless to make, yet at the same time, it takes skill and know-how. There are many different types of soup. And many different variations to each type. Potatoe Soup. French Onion. Chicken Noodle. Split Pea. Tomatoe. Chicken Tortilla. Vegetable. Even Top Ramen. :) And then there are the chowders. Potatoe Chowder. Corn Chowder. Clam Chowder. Crawfish Chowder. Broccoli and Cheese.
Soups are generally categorized in the above two groups: clear soup and thick soup. Pretty straight forward. Soup is pretty simple. There's not much to it. I do know that the word "soup" was given to us by the French soupe (broth) which comes from Latin suppa (bread soaked in water). Condensed soup was invented in 1897 by a chemist who was working for the Campbell Soup Company. Condensing soup allows soup to be packaged into smaller cans and sold at a low price.
I think my attraction to soup started a few years ago when I started reading the ingredients on most everything. How is there any correlation? Well I gradually started getting more and more creeped out about anything canned or packaged. First went ravioli, then went the fruit cocktail, then the Campbells soup. It hit me so sudden, and soon I found myself wondering what I SHOULD eat, because soup was a main component of my diet. Then I started appreciating my mothers homemade soups. All around our diet became more fresh foods. No longer will I eat foods that are processed in mass production, then canned and put on a shelf for weeks, then bought, then add on another couple months for the waiting period in the lazy susan. My soup fixation started here. And I will be in the UC everyday for the rest of the year lookin at their soup of the day....

Introduction

I'm Anna. I come from Helena, MT. I've lived there for most of my 18 years. I really like Missoula and the University. I love learning and thinking. I think a lot.
As of reading, I dig  it. I dont seem to ever have enough time to read, but its definately something I enjoy. I think more people need to read because it expands the vocabulary, it develops the imagination, and introduces you to new ideas. The last book I read is somewhat a self-help book, but I would still recommend it: The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire by: Deepak Chopra.
